Quick OEW Version Update Guide

This document is intended to be used as a guide for a manual download and installation of an OEW major version release. It provides step-by-step instructions for identifying the need for an installation, navigating through pop-up warnings, downloading the OEW version update, installing the OEW version update, and confirmation of the OEW version install.

NOTE: Version numbers shown in this document may not be current and are intended for guiding through the installation process only.

The current version and update numbers can be found at https://www.allegionoew.com/

If an update message like the one below is received, then an OEW Version Update will need to be installed.

Go to the Allegion OEW Development Portal: https://www.allegionoew.com/

Under the Resource Links header, Click the link that reads To Get The Latest Update For OEW, Click Here

The file should automatically download to the user's Downloads folder. If, for some reason, it does not auto-download, then save the file to the user's Downloads folder.

Open Windows File Explorer, navigate to the user's Downloads folder, and Double-Click pwsupdateXXX.exe to launch the OEW update.

NOTE: The “XXX” suffix represents an OEW update number

(Not the same as the OEW Version number, i.e., Version 2.89).

If a warning message displays titled “Windows protected your PC” like the one below, then click the More Info link:

An additional warning message displays like the “Windows protected on your PC” message shown below, then click the Run Anyway button.

MUST WAIT FOR COMPLETION:           

To monitor the installation progress. Open Task Manager. Select the Details tab (shown in the illustration below) and locate pwsupdate???.exe or, simply wait 15 minutes for the installation to complete and then move on to the next step in this document.

Once pwsupdateXXX.exe disappears from the Task Manager window, the update has been completed. It will be replaced in Task Manager with the following:

Close Task Manager

From the Desktop, right-click on the OEW icon and select Open

If the update was successful, the What’s New in OEW screen and the new OEW version number will display with the release date (See Below):
